My first encounter with the internet was in a cyber cafe in San Antonio after I got out or the army in 1995. That same year I moved to Austin where I learned about an organization called Austin Free Net that got a grant from the city to do digital literacy in the public library. They showed me how to set up my first email account and they taught me Basic HTML so I could create a website for the TV show I was helping produce on the local public access TX station. After attending SXSW Interactive I got into blogging. Since then social media has become a passion of mine. Last summer I did a digital marketing internship with Austin Urban Technology Movement HQ which is on a mission to bridge the gap between the Black, Brown, and Latinx communities and the technology industry through job placement, career development, and networking opportunities.
