Putting the Engineering in Engineering Management
In this talk we'll look at common problems engineering managers face (and new ones I probably created), and how through the use of process, tooling and automation you can find success as a manager in the same ways you did as an engineer. As a engineer turned manager myself, I’ll provide examples of the difficulties I faced both as engineer and a manager and how insisting on thinking like an engineer and using the tools available to me led to finding effective solutions for things like: - Being able to continually have productive career building discussions. - Building trust with a new team. - Being able to delegate with confidence. - Lead multiple projects, while still understanding individuals' contributions. - Improving team coding metrics. If you’re a new manager, an experienced director, or an engineer looking into the management path, this is a session that will challenge you to bring your problem solving abilities into your everyday workflows for the betterment of your team. I hope to see you there.
