Decoding the Kitchen: Create Your Own Trail Mix
Calling all Geeklings! Curious about coding, but don’t really know what it is? I totally get it; my husband is a software engineer and sometimes, okay most of the time, I have no idea what he does. When he starts telling me about code reviews and software languages and trees and methodologies, I smile and nod, but I’m really just dazed and confused. I may not know a lot about coding, but I do know a lot about cooking. So much, in fact, that I have poured myself into turning my hobby food blog, The Green Giraffe Eats, into a successful online community of food lovers who are eager to learn from me. I love to share my passion for all things food with my students, especially kids, in my online cooking classes. As I was creating my materials for a recent class, I had a light bulb moment. I was at my computer breaking down my recipes and instructions into small bite size pieces of information that I would teach in a specific order. Suddenly, I realized that cooking is a lot like coding and just like that I was inspired to share my revelation with the Geeks and Geeklings at THAT Conference. Through live demonstrations, group discussions, and hands-on recipe creation I will help you understand that at its core, the most basic components of coding are similar to the fundamentals of cooking. You will be inspired to apply these principles to other areas of your life to learn more, create more, and even code more, in the future. And the best part of all, you will get a chance to create your own recipe for trail mix to take and enjoy!
