Claiming Your Digital Campsite With Svelte, SvelteKit and Netlify

During this conference workshop, we'll be setting up your digital campsite. This will be a space to let the world know who you are, what you stand for, and what you're really good at! We'll build an SEO-ready portfolio using SvelteKit (training included), set up your build and deploy process with Github and Netlify, and prep your digital business card so that you're ready to network for the rest of the conference. Some basic knowledge of HTML and JavaScript is recommended, but not required.
Agenda
- We'll start off the day by discussing some of the complexities of launching an online portfolio, what SvelteKit is, and why it's an excellent choice for us to build our portfolio/networking space online. - Next, we'll dive right in and you will follow a guided training exercise on how to set up your web app, and get it rendering so you can start to fill out your information and customize it to your liking. - After we have things up and running, we'll show you how to add content over time to your portfolio so you can continue to customize it, and share your awesome self with the world. - Finally, we'll set up your digital business card so that you can use your new portfolio to network throughout the remainder of THAT conference. - Once things are looking good, we'll work together to get your site published to Github and Netlify. (Note: If you want your portfolio to live at a custom domain name (example: https://joshuapierce.com/) you'll need to bring a credit card and it will cost you around $10-$12 per year to retain). At the end of the workshop, we'll show off your creations and send you on your way with a map of what to learn next to continue growing and building out your online campsite.
Prerequisites
To attend this workshop, you'll need to bring a computer with the following things installed: - VS Code (https://code.visualstudio.com/) - Git (https://git-scm.com/downloads) - Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Please leave your Internet Explorer 9 at home. To get a jumpstart, it would be helpful to have accounts with the following: - GitHub (https://github.com/join) - Netlify (https://netlify.com -> Signup) If you want to have a custom domain for your portfolio, it would be helpful to have your accounts setup for the following: - Namecheap (https://namecheap.com -> Signup) - For the above, you'll either need a domain name you already own, or you can purchase a domain name day of the conference. - Cloudflare (https://cloudflare.com -> Signup) Lastly, the most important part, is you! Bring your authentic self and be ready to learn and have some fun along the way!
